Claude AI Introduces Auto Mode; Anthropic is pushing the boundaries of AI automation with a powerful new feature for Claude. If you’ve ever felt frustrated constantly approving every small action while coding, this update is designed for you. The company has introduced “Auto Mode” in Claude Code, allowing the AI to make its own decisions without needing continuous human approval.
Previously, users relied on a risky command called “dangerously-skip-permissions,” which could execute tasks freely—but at the cost of safety, including accidental file deletions. Auto Mode aims to solve this by offering a smarter, more controlled approach, where the AI can handle repetitive coding tasks independently while still maintaining safeguards.

How Claude Auto Mode Works
Auto Mode uses an intelligent system that evaluates every action before execution. An AI-powered classifier first assesses the risk level of a task. If the action is considered safe—like editing code or running basic commands—it proceeds automatically. However, if the system detects potential risks such as mass file deletion, sensitive data exposure, or harmful code execution, it immediately blocks the action or asks for user approval. This creates a balance between automation and control, allowing developers to focus on important work while Claude handles routine tasks. The feature is being positioned as a safer and more practical alternative to fully unrestricted AI execution.
Availability, Limitations, and Future Plans
Currently, Auto Mode is available as a research preview for Claude Team users, with plans to expand to Enterprise and API customers soon. It supports advanced models like Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6, and can be enabled through the desktop app, command-line interface, or VS code
While the system significantly reduces risks, Anthropic admits it is not perfect—the AI may sometimes block safe actions or allow risky ones due to unclear context. That’s why users are advised to use it in sandboxed or controlled environments. This update follows other recent launches like Claude Code Review and Dispatch, reinforcing Anthropic’s vision of transforming Claude from a simple tool into a fully autonomous AI coworker capable of handling tasks even when you’re not actively involved.
